May We Never Lose Our Wonder

May We Never Lose Our Wonder

Isaiah 6:1-5 Isaiah's Vision of the Lord

6 In the year that King Uzziah died (sometimes foxes have to be removed and things have to be dealt with) I saw the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up; and the train[a] of his robe filled the temple.

God is seated on a throne of grace; and through him the way into the holiest is laid open. See God's temple, his church on earth, filled with his glory. His train, the skirts of his robes, filled the temple, the whole world, for it is all God's temple. And yet he dwells in every contrite heart.

2 Above him stood the seraphim. Each had six wings: with two he covered his face, and with two he covered his feet, and with two he flew. 3 And one called to another and said:

Above the throne stood the holy angels, called seraphim, which means burners; they burn in love to God, and zeal for his glory against sin.

“Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;  the whole earth is full of his glory!”[b]

One cried; rather, kept crying (comp. Revelation 4:8, "They rest not day and night, saying, Holy, holy, holy"). Holy, holy, holy. The Church on earth has taken pattern by the Church above; and the "Trisagion" is ever being repeated in one part of the earth or another without ceasing: "Thou art holy, O thou Worship of Israel."

There is no attribute so essential to God as this. It is for his holiness, more than for anything else, that his creatures worship him. The triple repetition has been understood in all ages of the Church as connected with the doctrine of the Trinity. Holy is he who has created us, and bidden us worship him in the beauty of holiness Holy is he who has redeemed us, and washed away our sins, and made us by profession holy! Holy is he who day by day sanctifies us, and makes us in very deed and truth, so far as we will permit him, holy! The whole earth is full of his glory.

4 And the foundations of the thresholds shook at the voice of him who called, and the house was filled with smoke. 5 And I said: “Woe is me! For I am lost; for I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; for my eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts!”

Wonder is like fertilizer to our souls. You add it to your life and it increases growth not only in your life but in the life of others that are affected by you. The world reaps what was created in wonder.

It’s enhances the field where miracles and growth happen.

It’s the problem with us as we grow up. We’ve lost our wonder. We’ve lost our expectation.

We’ve lived in a broken and hurting world for too long. We live without expectation.

Not kids though. They will write a thousand prayer request and mean everyone. They will write honest prayer request because they know He is able. They live in wonder. Everything is an adventure. Nothing in mundane. No wonder Jesus says…

And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them and said, “Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 18:2-4 ESV)

Matthew 19:14 ESV But Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me and do not hinder them, for to such belongs the kingdom of heaven.”

Matthew 21:15-16 ESV But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?

That’s why I stand with people like Mr Jeremiah and hate when children are robbed of their childhood and they are abused and worse. They are robbed of their wonder.

What happens when we are filled with wonder?
We fulfill God’s plan for Our Lives and not only Grow but Produce Much Fruit.  Just look at the the life of Isiah for a great example.

6 Then one of the seraphim flew to me, having in his hand a burning coal that he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 And he touched my mouth and said: “Behold, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away, and your sin atoned for.”  8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.” 9 And he said, “Go, and say to this people:

Wide eyed and mystified
May we be just like a child
Staring at the beauty of our King
Ooooh oh oh
Fill us with wonder
May we never lose our wonder
May we never lose our wonder
You fascinate me
You fascinate us
You fascinate us, with you are
You are glorious
You are beautiful
Fill us with your wonder.

Application:
I wonder if today there are some people today who have lost their wonder. Where serving God has become more of a chore, where church is just something that you do, and you have lost your wonder. There was a church like this in the book of Revelation and Jesus says it like this they had lost their first love and the command is clear He says to look honestly at how far you have fallen and repent and return to the thing that you used to do.

The way you used to love Him.
The way you used to serve Him.
The way you used to walk closely with Him and shun every form of sin.
Return there and let him fill you with His wonder.

May we never lose our Wonder.
