James is an excellent writer.
The brother of Jesus, yes but excellent in his writing techniques so that every sentence becomes profound in and of itself. One-line zingers if you will and our culture today loves these. Ideas that profoundly impact and you don’t have to spend two hours figuring them out.
And then these sentences become connected to something else.
Count it all Joy brothers when you face various trials…perfect and complete…
When tempted no one should say God is tempting me…it’s you and your own evil desires…
Every good and perfect gift is from above…He does not change…
James 1:19-27 Hearing and Doing the Word
19 Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger; 20 for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God.
We live in a day where this is opposite. We are quick to speak. Quick to post. Quick to state our opinion even though we don’t know all the facts. And then we don’t listen to anybody. How dare someone tell me something. And then to top it all off we get angry about the fact that someone told us something, did something, didn’t do something and it DOES’NT produce the righteousness.
Q: When is one time that you got angry and it produced something good?
It only feels good in the moment and then you often time pay for it in the lifetime.
God gave us mouths that close and ears that don’t, that MUST tell us something.
Listen and Silent are spelled with the same letters. Be Both
