Fighting the Real Enemy

Do you Remember who the real enemy is?

I love Hunger Games.

As in I have read every book more than once and have made my family sit down and watch it as a nightly marathon during one of our weeks in quarantine. There's a scene in Catching Fire, where Haymitch a mentor of Katniss (the hero of the story) gives this following advice before the Quarter Quell begins: “remember who the real enemy is.”

In the book it quotes like this...

Enemy. Enemy. The word is tugging at a recent memory. Pulling it into the present. The look on Haymitch’s face. ‘Katniss, when you’re in the arena…’ The scowl, the misgiving. ‘What?’ I hear my own voice tighten as I bristle at some unspoken accusation. ‘You just remember who the enemy is.’ Haymitch says. ‘That’s all.

And really that is ALL we must remember.

The devil is your enemy.

Ephesians 6:12 says it this way “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.”

That my Christian friends is your enemy.

Rulers, authorities, cosmic power OVER THIS PRESENT DARKNESS, and spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places, that is your enemy and whom we are to fight against. In this world driven my media, opinions, and crisis it is important to keep this in focus.

Because when we are busy fighting the wrong enemy we ultimately lose and the real enemy wins, EVERY SINGLE TIME.

So, can I encourage you with the end of this passage…

13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. 14 Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. 16 In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; 17 and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, 18 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints. Ephesians 6:13-18
